After going down in the first and second ODI by seven wickets (via DLS method) and two wickets respectively, the Indian team is taking on Australia in the third and final ODI, underway at the Sydney Cricket
Ground in Sydney. While the team from Down Under will aim to register a clean sweep, India on the other hand will hope for a consolation win in order to end the series on a high. For the unversed, Mitchell Marsh won the toss and elected to bat first.
The Aussie skipper and Travis Head gave a good start for the hosts, but fell to Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj respectively. Thereafter, a stunning catch at square leg from Virat Kohli dismissed Matthew Short in the 23rd over, a running catch from vice-captain Shreyas Iyer ended Alex Carey’s stay in the middle.
Shreyas Iyer takes a brilliant running catch; gets injured in the process
With Shubman Gill reintroducing Harshit Rana into the attack in the 34th over, on the first delivery Matt Renshaw flicked the ball to reach his maiden half-century in ODIs. But the moment turned on the fourth delivery when Rana bowled a short of a length outside off to Alex Carey. The Aussie wicketkeeper threw his arms at it, but ended up slicing it long way in the air. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, who was stationed at backward point, turned around and ran.
While he jumped just in time to grab the ball, but landed awkwardly to his left, thus injuring his left hip. Iyer looked in visible pain on the field and was eventually taken off the field by the physio. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn’t shared any update on Iyer yet, Australia are in a state of bother as their scorecard reads 201/7 after 38.5 overs.
