After Cricket Australia earlier this month announced 14-member squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, the side have received a major setback now. The team from Down Under will be without
Josh Inglis, who has been ruled out of the series due to a calf strain. It is to be noted that Australia will tour New Zealand for a three-match T20I series in October.
The matches will be played on October 1, followed by a game each on October 3 and 4 - all at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. But days ahead of the series commencement, Australia have been handed a massive setback as they will be without Inglis, who sustained a calf strain. As per reports citing ESPNcricinfo, Inglis felt soreness in his right calf after a running session in Perth earlier this week with the scans confirming the same later.
Alex Carey named Josh Inglis’ replacement for three-match T20I series vs New Zealand
While the blow makes Inglis the fourth frontline Aussie cricketer to miss the tour after Pat Cummins, Cameron Green and Nathan Ellis. While Cummins is out due to a lumbar bone stress, Green has been asked to focus on Sheffield Shield cricket ahead of Ashes series. Nathan Ellis, on the other hand will be unavailable due to impending birth of his first child. However, the wicketkeeper-batter is expected to regain fitness in time for the ODI series against India, starting October 19.
