Star wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, who picked up a toe injury during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, might not make it to Team India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025 to be held from September 9 to 28
in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The competition will be played in the T20 International (T20I) format this time around, while India are the reigning champions of it in the ODI formate from 2023. Earlier in 2022, when the Asia Cup was organised in the T20I format, India’s journey ended in the Super 4 round, while in 2016, when the continental tournament was conducted in the T20 format for the first-time, the Men in Blue emerged victorious under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
This time, India will look to be effective again in the distinguished tournament to retain the title. As per a Times Of India (TOI) report, Pant, who is in contention for the wicketkeeper batter’s spot with KL Rahul and Sanju Samson, might have to miss the series as he is required to stay away from cricketing action for six weeks to completely recover from his toe injury. The 27-year-old isn’t required to undergo any surgery for his toe fracture but rest is mandatory for his full recovery.
Rishabh Pant might not feature in the home Test series against West Indies
The same report also asserted thatRishabh Pantmay not record his presence in the two-match Test series against West Indies at home, as well. Between October 2 and 14, the Caribbean side will play a couple of Tests against Shubman Gill’s team. The matches will be held in Ahmedabad and Delhi.
Pant looked brilliant with his bat in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. He notched up 479 runs with a couple of hundreds and three fifties in seven innings of four Tests. He failed to show up in the final game at The Oval after picking up the toe injury, while playing an unconventional shot against Chris Woakes in the Manchester Test.
