New Zealand legend and former batter, Ross Taylor on Friday, September 5 took a big decision and reserved his retirement from international cricket. The Kiwi veteran, who is aged 41, confirmed his decision in a social
media post, but in a twist, the legend will not turn out for New Zealand as he has joined Samoa.
Notably, the 41-year-old, in December 2021 announced retirement from international cricket with his last match coming in the six-match ODI series against Australia and the Netherlands in 2022. In a post on X he wrote, “Today I’m announcing my retirement from international cricket at the conclusion of the home summer, two more tests against Bangladesh, and six odi’s against Australia & the Netherlands. Thak you for 17 years of incredible support. It’s been an honour to represent my country #234”.

Taking to his official Instagram handle, the 41-year-old wrote, "Coming out of retirement.”"It's official - I'm proud to announce that I'll be pulling on the blue and representing Samoa in cricket. This is more than just a return to the game I love - it's the huge honour to represent my heritage, culture, villages, and family. I'm excited for the opportunity to give back to the game, join the squad, and share my experience on and off the field," he further added.
The Kiwi legend will be donning cap number 685 for the independent island nation in the central South Pacific Ocean at the upcoming East Asia Pacific Qualifier 2025 for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
