After getting linked with Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings have emerged as another possible destination for the star India all-rounder. The franchise is reportedly exploring a trade deal to acquire the Baroda cricketer's services for the .
As per information available with myKhel, Punjab Kings are prepared to offer left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh along with a batter in exchange for Pandya. Nehal Wadhera is likely to be considered as the additional player in the proposed deal.
Pandya's value as a multi-dimensional cricketer is understood to be a key factor behind Punjab Kings' interest. The all-rounder contributes with both bat and ball, while his fielding adds another dimension to his game. Punjab Kings could therefore look to include a batter alongside Arshdeep to make the proposed exchange more attractive to Mumbai Indians.
However, the trade remains unconfirmed, and there has been no official announcement from either franchise.
Ricky Ponting's Hardik Pandya Connection
Ponting's previous association with Pandya could be another factor behind the reported interest.
The former Australia captain worked with Pandya during his stint as Mumbai Indians head coach between 2015 and 2016. Ponting's familiarity with the all-rounder could help facilitate a smooth transition if a move to Punjab Kings materialises.
Pandya could also bring valuable experience to a Punjab Kings side led by Shreyas Iyer. His ability to influence games with both bat and ball would give the franchise another proven match-winner, while his experience could prove useful in high-pressure situations.
Why Are Punjab Kings Considering Arshdeep Singh?
Arshdeep Singh's name being linked with a potential trade has raised questions, given his importance to Punjab Kings' bowling attack.
The left-arm pacer was retained for a reported ₹18 crore ahead of IPL 2026. However, claims that the franchise is dissatisfied with his performances or is considering moving him on have not been officially confirmed.
Any potential trade involving Arshdeep would represent a significant decision for Punjab Kings, particularly given the value of Indian left-arm fast bowlers in the IPL.
The proposed deal would also reportedly involve Nehal Wadhera, who could provide Mumbai Indians with another batting option.
Hardik Pandya's IPL 2027 Future
Pandya's future at Mumbai Indians has become a talking point amid reports linking him with multiple franchises. The all-rounder returned to Mumbai Indians as captain ahead of IPL 2024 after spending two seasons with Gujarat Titans, whom he had led to the title in their debut campaign in 2022.
While the latest reports have brought Punjab Kings into the conversation, any move would depend on negotiations between the franchises and the applicable IPL trading and retention rules.
For now, the possibility of Pandya joining Punjab Kings remains unconfirmed. The reported interest, however, has added another layer to the growing discussion around the all-rounder's future ahead of IPL 2027.
