The tension was palpable at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) took on the Rajasthan
Royals (RR) in the high-stakes IPL 2026 Eliminator.
In a do-or-die fixture where experience usually dictates the tempo, it was a 15-year-old prodigy who completely flipped the script. Stepping out to open the batting for the Rajasthan Royals, young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered a performance for the ages, completely dismantling the opposition's bowling attack.
Right from the first ball, Sooryavanshi unleashed a storm that instantly took the powerplay out of SRH's grip. Showing zero nerves on the massive playoff stage, the teenage sensation played a whirlwind knock, dispatching the ball to all parts of the ground.
He batted with pure, unadulterated aggression, treating international stars with utter disdain most notably taking SRH skipper Pat Cummins for 23 runs in a single over. Racing to his half-century in just 16 balls, he ultimately smashed an unbelievable 97 off just 29 deliveries, an innings laced with 12 towering sixes. By the time his blitzkrieg ended, the SRH bowlers were left shell-shocked, and RR was firmly in the driver's seat.
Sachin Tendulkar's Ultimate Praise
The sheer magnitude and technical brilliance of the teenager's innings did not go unnoticed by the "God of Cricket" himself. Legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his awe at the youngster's incredible batting display.
"Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's bat swing has been outstanding. What's even more remarkable is how beautifully he clears his front foot to create room for balls aimed at his legs. This freedom allows him to play the way he does. That innings was nothing short of spectacular!"
As highlighted by Tendulkar, what stood out the most during Sooryavanshi's batting was his flawless technique and fearless execution. His bat swing was incredibly clean, generating massive power and allowing him to deposit the ball deep into the stands with ease.
RR won the match by 47 runs and have now progressed to the Qualifier 2 and will face Gujarat Titans on Friday (May 29).
