Abhishek Sharma has been given out in controversial circumstances in the ongoing IPL 2026 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Abhishek, who was batting in a magnificent fashion, was given out after Varun Chakravarthy took a stunning catch, albeit in a questionable manner, at the deep.
KKR vs SRH: What Happened in Abhishek Sharma's Dismissal?
In the 9th over of the match, a short ball from Blessing Muzarabani was pulled fiercely by Abhishek Sharma. The ball was heading towards the boundary, but Varun Chakravarty pulled off a stellar catch almost from the last inch of the ground. The umpires couldn't confirm the catch and referred it to the 3rd umpire. The 3rd umpire took several looks at the catch, and then finally adjudged the SRH batter out, much to the dismay of Abhishek Sharma.
Was Abhishek Shama Out?
Abhishek Sharma's decision can be seen from different point of views. The SRH fans can be extremely disappointed as the decision went against them, while KKR fans may argue that there was no conclusive evidence of the ball dropping before meeting Varun's palms.
There were many replay angles which the 3rd umpire accessed, and one of them kind of showed the ball making an upward trajectory, just as it does right after meeting the soil. But it remained inconclusive as similar movement can also happen if someone takes a catch from such a low position and then his body voluntarily jerks up, so do the hands. Hence, the decision was tricky and the fielder got the benefit of the doubt.
KKR back in the Match
Kolkata, by all means, have made a comeback in the encounter. After the onslaught from Abhishek and Travis Head earlier, the Orange Army was heading towards a mammoth score. But Blessing took both Head and Sharma in the same over, and then Anukul Roy picked up Aniket Verma soon after. At the moment, SRH are 123/4 after 10 overs.
