Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has successfully recovered from his wrist injury and is set to play the next IPL 2026 match.
During their IPL 2026 season
opener on March 31 at Mullanpur, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer suffered a scary wrist injury while chasing 163 against the Gujarat Titans.
At the non-striker's end in the 12th over, debutant teammate Cooper Connolly unleashed a fierce straight drive off Rashid Khan. The ball struck Iyer's wrist hard before he could evade it. He collapsed in visible pain, clutching his hand as the physio rushed in with ice. The incident briefly halted momentum, and Iyer looked uncomfortable.
He resumed batting but fell soon after for 18 off 11 balls. Despite the scare, Punjab Kings secured a thrilling three-wicket win, powered by Connolly's unbeaten 72.
Post-match, a smiling Iyer downplayed the issue in the presentation: "It's the same as it was before. I don't want to jinx anything. I just want to stay positive. "
Shreyas Iyer fit to play vs CSK
And MyKhel can confirm that the PBKS skipper is fit and ready for the upcoming match against Chennai Super Kings on Friday (April 3). The India batter underwent a scan, and that confirmed no underlying or significant damage.
"Shreyas Iyer had some swelling after sustaining injury in the first game. Initially, the first aid in the form of ice pack was given and later he was taken for scans which came out normal. He's fit for the game against Chennai Super Kings and is travelling with the team to Chennai. So, he should be playing the match and lead Punjab Kings," a source told MyKhel.
The Kings have looked in excellent touch early in this campaign as they beat the Titans without much fuss. After last season's heroics, which saw them progress to the final, the team will aim to replicate more of the same in the new season.
