"These tough races definitely test you psychologically," Russell said. "These last two weekends, for me, have been vitally important to remind myself I can do it. "
Russell controlled the race from the front, resisting Verstappen's early pressure and then managing tyres and strategy. Antonelli stayed on top of the standings despite losing ground to Russell, recording a sixth podium from eight races. Antonelli described how changing tyres transformed the rhythm but came too late to fight for the win. "I was struggling with the brakes. After I changed tyres, I reset and the pace at the end was very strong. It was a shame I joined the party a bit too late. On my side, there's a lot to improve, I have to minimise the mistakes. "
For Verstappen, second place behind Russell brought a first top-two finish of 2026 and only a second podium of the season, after third in Canada. Red Bull appeared more competitive at the Austrian Grand Prix, with Verstappen engaged in a genuine fight for victory before late issues disrupted the challenge.
Verstappen felt the race underlined progress while also exposing remaining weaknesses. "It was a very good race for us. The first few laps were quite fun, and then it was basically abouttrying to manage your tyres. I think I was in quite a good window for half the race and then picked up a few issues with the car, which prevented me from finding that rhythm. "
Verstappen added that the narrow defeat still represented a step forward for Red Bull. "But to be second, and that close to a win, is extremely positive.
