Christian Pulisic made a remarkable impact for AC Milan, scoring twice in the second half to secure a 3-2 victory over Torino. His performance came just
two days after he was bedridden. Pulisic entered the match in the 66th minute and quickly equalised, then netted the winner from Samuele Ricci's cross. "Two days ago I was dead in bed, but I felt much better today," Pulisic told Sky Sport Italia.
Adrien Rabiot played a crucial role by scoring a stunning 30-yard goal in the 24th minute, reducing Torino's lead. This long-range effort was Milan's furthest goal since Keisuke Honda's strike from 30 metres against Genoa in February 2016. Rabiot noted that their poor start improved as they became more determined in the second half.
AC Milan currently holds 31 points after 14 Serie A matches this season, marking their best start since the 2021-22 campaign when they last won the Scudetto. Historically, when Milan has surpassed 30 points at this stage, they have never finished lower than third place. Pulisic has been instrumental, scoring seven goals despite only nine league appearances.
Pulisic is one of only three Milan players to score multiple goals as a substitute in Serie A over the past decade. Ante Rebic and Santiago Gimenez are the others who achieved this feat. "I'm happier with the win than the goals, honestly," Pulisic said about his contribution to the team's success.
The Opta supercomputer gives Milan a 23.4% chance of winning the title this season. Napoli and Inter are seen as stronger contenders with probabilities of 26.6% and 43.1%, respectively. Rabiot emphasised that improving their initial approach is crucial since they cannot always rely on comebacks from two-goal deficits.
Rabiot highlighted that games like these can define a season by showcasing determination and focus. He acknowledged errors but praised the team's mentality and spirit for turning things around, including contributions from substitutes like Pulisic.
