Mumbai's domestic heavyweights are set to light up the Vijay Hazare Trophy as four senior India players will feature in their upcoming two matches.
Shreyas
Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shivam Dube prepare to don Mumbai colours for pivotal league encounters. This star-studded trio's involvement signals a major boost for the team, currently holding second place in Elite Group C and eyeing a strong finish to secure knockout qualification.
Shreyas Iyer, serving as India's ODI vice-captain, marks his eagerly anticipated comeback to competitive cricket following an extended absence. The elegant middle-order batter will feature in Mumbai's remaining group-stage fixtures: a high-stakes clash against Himachal Pradesh on January 6, followed by a showdown with Punjab two days later on January 8.
Iyer's return adds significant firepower, especially as he eyes a spot in India's upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, slated to begin on January 11. However, his international participation hinges on receiving final fitness approval from the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE). Iyer's spin laceration in the Australia series in October kept him out of action for two months, and now he will get the final verdict from CoE medical staff.
Surya, Shivam to join Mumbai
Joining Iyer are two of India's T20 dynamos: the explosive Suryakumar Yadav and the hard-hitting Shivam Dube. Their presence transforms an already competitive Mumbai side into outright favourites for progression, intensifying the pressure on opponents in these must-win games. Along with them, Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to feature in the last two group stage matches, before joining the Indian squad for the New Zealand series.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma played a couple of matches in the VHT for Mumbai, where he scored a stellar century against Sikkim.
