New Delhi, Oct 26: The IPL 2027 auction build-up could witness a major transfer twist, with Hardik Pandya reportedly emerging as a potential target for
Punjab Kings (PBKS). Speculation surrounding the Indian all-rounder's future has intensified, with former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin suggesting that Punjab could be exploring a deal involving Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal in exchange for Pandya.
While no official confirmation has emerged regarding the reported discussions, the possibility of such a move raises intriguing questions about Punjab's squad-building strategy and Mumbai Indians' plans ahead of the next season. The prospect of Pandya switching franchises would be one of the biggest talking points of the IPL 2027 cycle.
According to Ashwin, Punjab have not offered Pandya a captaincy role as part of the reported discussions. This could be a significant factor in any potential move, particularly given the all-rounder's previous leadership experience with Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. Pandya led Gujarat to the IPL title in their debut season in 2022, underlining his credentials as a captain.
However, with Shreyas Iyer leading Punjab Kings, the franchise may be looking at Pandya primarily as a key all-rounder and senior figure rather than a replacement captain. Whether that arrangement appeals to Pandya remains uncertain.
What Would Hardik Pandya Bring to Punjab Kings?
Pandya's potential arrival could address one of Punjab's long-standing squad requirements: a proven Indian all-rounder capable of contributing with both bat and ball. His presence could provide greater balance to the playing XI and reduce the franchise's reliance on overseas options such as Marcus Stoinis.
An Indian player who can deliver impactful performances in both departments would also give Punjab more flexibility when selecting their overseas combination. Pandya's experience in high-pressure matches and his leadership background could further strengthen a side that has relied heavily on its younger players.
For Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, a deal involving Jansen and Chahal could offer a different squad balance, although the reported proposal remains speculative.
For now, Pandya's future ahead of IPL 2027 remains uncertain. Until the franchises confirm any negotiations or agreement, a move to Punjab Kings should be treated as a possibility rather than an established development.
