Match 66 of IPL 2026 carries major implications at both ends of the table. Gujarat Titans (GT) can secure a playoff berth and strengthen their push for
a top-two finish, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) must win to keep their fading qualification hopes alive.
With the Narendra Modi Stadium expected to favour strokeplay and high scores, the overseas contingent on both sides could play a decisive role.
Gujarat Titans overseas players to watch
Jos Buttler
GT's most dangerous overseas weapon remains Buttler, who has been in excellent form throughout the campaign. The England wicketkeeper-batter enters the contest after another fluent half-century and forms one of the tournament's most productive opening combinations alongside Shubman Gill.
On Ahmedabad's batting-friendly surface, Buttler's ability to dominate the powerplay could put CSK immediately under pressure. If he survives the opening overs, GT have the firepower to post another imposing total.
Rashid Khan
Few bowlers influence T20 matches as consistently as Rashid. The Afghan leg-spinner remains GT's go-to wicket-taking option through the middle overs and boasts an impressive record against CSK.
His battle against CSK's left-handers and aggressive middle order could determine whether Chennai are able to maintain momentum during a chase or recovery effort.
Kagiso Rabada
Rabada has rediscovered his rhythm at a crucial stage of the season. The South African quick dismantled CSK's top order when the sides met earlier in the tournament and remains one of the most threatening new-ball bowlers in the competition.
With Chennai needing a positive start, Rabada's opening spell against players such as Ruturaj Gaikwad could be one of the defining contests of the evening.
Chennai Super Kings depend on strong overseas squad
Noor Ahmad
CSK's standout overseas performer with the ball this season has been Noor Ahmad. The left-arm wrist-spinner has regularly delivered breakthroughs and will be tasked with slowing down GT's explosive batting unit.
His match-up against Buttler and GT's right-handed middle order could decide whether Chennai are able to keep the hosts within reach.
Dewald Brevis
Brevis has added much-needed attacking intent to CSK's middle order. Nicknamed "Baby AB" because of stylistic similarities to AB de Villiers, the South African possesses the ability to shift momentum quickly.
Against GT's spin-heavy attack led by Rashid, Brevis could become Chennai's key counterattacking option in the middle overs.
Jamie Overton
If selected, Overton provides balance with both bat and ball. His extra pace could be valuable on a surface that generally rewards hard lengths, while his lower-order hitting offers additional depth in a match CSK cannot afford to lose.
Key overseas battle to watch at GT vs CSK
The contest between GT's overseas trio of Buttler, Rashid and Rabada and CSK's combination of Noor Ahmad, Brevis and Overton may ultimately decide the result.
GT appear stronger on paper, particularly with their proven match-winners at both ends of the innings. However, CSK's season is on the line, and if Noor can disrupt GT's top order while Brevis delivers another impactful innings, the visitors could still keep their playoff hopes alive.
Players to watch: Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad. These three are likely to have the biggest influence on how Match 66 unfolds in Ahmedabad.
