Flick emphasised that Barcelona will not alter their football philosophy despite these challenges. "We are Barca, and we want to play our football," he stated.
He dismissed the idea of adopting a more defensive approach, insisting on sticking to their attacking DNA. "We won't defend in our own half and play on the counter-attack to win 1-0," he added.
The match against Brugge saw Barcelona concede twice within the first 17 minutes, marking their earliest two-goal deficit in Champions League history. Flick attributed this to insufficient midfield intensity and frequent loss of possession. "The midfield didn't press enough," he noted, highlighting the difficulty faced by the defence against quick counter-attacks.
Flick also acknowledged issues with maintaining their offside trap this season. Opponents have found ways to exploit it effectively. "Last year, when you saw the offside goals, they were by a meter or two," he explained. This season has been more challenging for Barcelona's defence.
Despite current struggles, Flick remains optimistic about future improvements. He hopes players like Raphinha, Joan Garcia, and Pedri will return after the break. Additionally, he expects Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski to elevate their performances soon.
