Cristiano Ronaldo's high-profile stint in Saudi Arabia could be approaching an unexpected turning point, with reports suggesting the Portuguese icon is evaluating
his future at Al Nassr ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 40-year-old forward, who has been central to the Saudi Pro League's global rise, is believed to be exploring the possibility of returning to Europe or shifting to Major League Soccer as per a report by Sky Sports and Daily Mail.
Speculation about Ronaldo's future intensified after he missed Al Nassr's recent league victory over Al Riyadh. While the club has not provided an official explanation for his absence, several reports indicate that the veteran forward is increasingly dissatisfied with the club's direction, particularly regarding recruitment strategy and financial support. Ronaldo, who remains fiercely competitive and eager to add to his trophy cabinet, is reportedly frustrated by what he perceives as limited backing in the transfer market.
Al Nassr are currently in the title race but trail league leaders Al Hilal by a narrow margin. Ronaldo had reportedly expected stronger reinforcements during the recent transfer window to boost the club's chances of securing their first Saudi Pro League crown during his tenure. However, the club's only addition in January was young Iraqi midfielder Hayder Abdulkareem, which is believed to have heightened the player's concerns.
Ronaldo is said to feel that Al Nassr have not received the same level of financial support as other clubs backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), including Al Hilal, Al Ahli, and Al Ittihad. The perception gained further traction after Al Hilal completed a high-profile deal for Karim Benzema, reinforcing their squad with established international talent.
Saudi authorities, however, maintain that funding is distributed equally among PIF-controlled clubs. Officials have also reportedly expressed surprise over Ronaldo's dissatisfaction, especially considering his lucrative contract, estimated to be worth nearly £500,000 per day. Al Nassr's restrained transfer activity has been attributed to sustainability regulations and significant expenditure earlier in the season, which reportedly exceeded £100 million.
Ronaldo's contract reportedly includes a €50 million release clause that becomes active in the summer. With approximately 18 months remaining on his current deal and his 41st birthday approaching, the football legend may soon consider whether to continue his Saudi journey or pursue a final challenge elsewhere.
