Algeria has formally complained to FIFA over what it believes were major refereeing errors during its 3-0 defeat to Argentina at the FIFA World Cup 2026,

The flashpoint came during the first half when Messi appeared to catch Algeria captain Aissa Mandi on the calf with a raised boot.
