The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed its scheduled meeting with Indian Premier League (IPL) stakeholders after its officials
were asked to attend a felicitation ceremony hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 15 in New Delhi.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the decision on Tuesday, with the meeting originally scheduled to bring together IPL franchise owners, chief executives, hosting state associations and broadcasters in Mumbai. The board will announce a revised date and venue later.
The postponement comes as the IPL prepares for its 20th season in 2027, with the stakeholder meeting expected to address matters concerning the tournament.
Why Has the BCCI Postponed the IPL Stakeholder Meeting?
The BCCI had scheduled the meeting for Thursday, October 15. However, the Prime Minister's invitation required board officials to attend a ceremony honouring India's men's and women's cricket teams for their gold-medal-winning campaigns at the 2026 Asian Games.
"The meeting with the IPL Franchise Owners, CEOs, IPL Hosting State Associations and Broadcasters, scheduled to be held on October 15, 2026, in Mumbai, has been postponed," Saikia said in a BCCI statement.
"The Hon'ble Prime Minister of India is scheduled to felicitate the Indian men's and women's teams for their outstanding performances at the recently concluded 20th Asian Games on October 15, 2026, in New Delhi. Accordingly, BCCI officials will be required to attend the felicitation ceremony. "
Saikia also said several stakeholders had requested that the meeting be rescheduled to ensure maximum participation in person.
"In view of the above, and with a view to facilitating maximum participation in person, it has been decided to postpone the meeting," he added.
The BCCI has not yet announced the revised schedule.
PM Modi to Honour Asian Games Medallists on October 15
The felicitation ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Prime Minister's residence in New Delhi at 4:30 pm on Thursday. It will bring together India's Asian Games medallists, the men's and women's cricket teams and other sporting achievers.
India finished fourth in the overall standings at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, winning 85 medals, including 21 gold. The contingent climbed from eighth place to fourth during the latter stages of the competition, matching its overall position from the previous edition in Hangzhou.
The ceremony is expected to recognise the achievements of Indian athletes across disciplines, including the two cricket teams that secured gold medals at the continental event.
What Happens Next for the IPL Stakeholder Meeting?
The BCCI has said further details, including the new date and venue, will be communicated at a later stage.
The meeting is expected to bring together key stakeholders as preparations continue for the IPL's 20th season in 2027. Franchise representatives, broadcasters and hosting state associations were all scheduled to attend the Mumbai gathering.
For now, the board's immediate priority is to accommodate the Prime Minister's felicitation ceremony before rescheduling the discussions. No revised date has been announced.
