It was not the start expected for Abhishek Sharma in the high-voltage match against Pakistan. The young Indian opener, who returned to the team after recovering
from illness, failed to trouble the scorers. He was dismissed for a duck (0 runs), leaving Indian fans shocked.
With this dismissal, Abhishek Sharma has entered a "humbling list" of cricketers with an unwanted world record.
The Unwanted Record: Two Ducks in First Two Matches
Abhishek Sharma has become only the 3rd batter in T20 World Cup history to score two ducks in his first two World Cup matches. He scored a duck in his debut World Cup game earlier in the tournament and has now repeated it against Pakistan.
The only other players to have this unfortunate start to their careers are:
Morris Ouma (Kenya), Imrul Kayes (Bangladesh), Abhishek Sharma (India)
While Abhishek has two ducks in two matches, the record for the most difficult start belongs to a player from Uganda. Roger Mukasa is the only player in history to score three ducks in his first three T20 World Cup batting opportunities.
Most Ducks for India in T20 World Cups
Abhishek Sharma (2 ducks in 2 innings) is not alone when it comes to Indian players scoring zeroes. He has now joined senior all-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja ( 2 ducks in 14 innings) and Shivam Dube (2 ducks in 10 innings) on the list of multiple ducks.
However, the record for the most ducks by an Indian player in T20 World Cup history is held by former fast bowler Ashish Nehra (3 ducks in 3 innings).
