India's preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026 have suffered a potential setback, with all-rounder Washington Sundar facing uncertainty over his availability
for the tournament. The marquee event, scheduled from February 7 to March 8 across India and Sri Lanka, could begin without the spin-bowling all-rounder if he fails to recover in time from a rib injury.
According to a report by The Indian Express, Sundar is likely to require at least two more weeks to regain full fitness. The 26-year-old has already been sidelined from the ongoing five-match T20I series against New Zealand after picking up the injury during the first ODI in Vadodara. The issue emerged while he was bowling, forcing him to leave the field mid-match before returning later to contribute with the bat in a crucial partnership that helped India secure victory.
The Indian team management and selection committee will soon have to make a decisive call on Sundar's participation in the World Cup. With the tournament fast approaching and India set to open their campaign at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, time is running out for the all-rounder to prove his readiness.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly exploring contingency plans in case Sundar is ruled out.
