In a match that will be remembered for its audacious batting, KL Rahul and Nitish Rana stitched together a sensational 220-run partnership for the second
wicket as Delhi Capitals took on Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday (April 25).
Coming together after an early wicket, the duo turned a tricky chase into a high-octane spectacle, dismantling PBKS's vaunted attack with clinical precision and raw power.
Rahul, usually the epitome of measured elegance, shed his anchor tag completely. He blazed to 146 not out off just 64 balls, striking at a blistering 228. His timing on the drive was immaculate, while his ability to clear the ropes-nine sixes in total-left the Punjab bowlers clueless. What stood out was his calm between the boundaries; he rotated strike effortlessly, allowing his partner to go big without pressure.
Nitish Rana, returning to form in style, matched Rahul's intensity with a swashbuckling 91 off 44 deliveries (strike rate 206). The left-hander was aggressive from the start, punishing anything short with thunderous pulls and lofting spinners over long-on with disdain. His 11 fours and four sixes came in a flurry of intent, showing the confidence that had been missing in recent outings.
Rahul ended up unbeaten on 152 as the Capitals scored 264/2 in their full quota of overs, the highest score in this season's IPL.
