Quinton de Kock delivered a match-defining knock of 90 off 46 balls in the 2nd T20I against India at Mullanpur, powering South Africa to 213/4 and a commanding
51-run victory that leveled the series. Coming off a low first game, the left-hander attacked from the start after South Africa opted to bat first on a batsman-friendly pitch, quickly putting India's seamers under pressure with his clean striking.
He raced to his fifty with a mix of boundaries and sixes, forming an 83-run partnership with Aiden Markram that kept the scoreboard racing ahead. De Kock targeted short balls ruthlessly, smashing seven sixes and five fours, while smart placement against Arshdeep Singh and others saw overs leak double figures regularly.
De Kock, who retired from the game a year ago, seems to have rejuvenated himself since his return. And the player himself acknowledges the break has done wonders for him.
"I think prior to my retirement, I was losing my hunger to win games for this team, specifically for the Proteas. And that time away just brought back my hunger," he said after the Mullanpur heroics.
With that, the Proteas batter will have an eye on the IPL 2026 mini auction as well. After being released by Kolkata Knight Riders, De Kock has registered his name with a base price of Rs 1 crore, and there are teams who are expected to raise their paddle for his acquisition.
