After an impressive stint in England, one of India's brightest young batting talents, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, is currently undergoing an exclusive personalized
training programme at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
The 14-year-old prodigy, who has already made waves in the IPL with Rajasthan Royals and shone in India's U-19 and domestic one-day cricket, was first called for a special practice session with the Royals upon his return from England.
From there, he headed straight to NCA on August 10, where a tailored schedule focusing on both technical drills and match-specific scenarios has been set up exclusively for him. His childhood coach Manish Ojha, who has seen Vaibhav's rise closely, told MyKhel that this programme is about much more than the immediate Australia challenge.
"BCCI is looking ahead. The senior players are gradually retiring, and to fill that vacuum, the next batch of youngsters must be fully ready. This training for Vaibhav is part of that process. We pick boys one by one and prepare them accordingly for the demands of international cricket," Ojha explained.
The Bengaluru stint will continue for about a week before Vaibhav joins the rest of the team for combined practice ahead of the tour. While Vaibhav's aggressive batting style has brought him enormous success in white-ball cricket, Ojha believes the next big leap should be achieving sustained impact in multi-day formats.
"He has the ability to attack from the very first ball, which is a huge positive in T20s and one-dayers. You've seen it in the IPL, U-19, and Vijay Hazare. But in longer formats, the performance level drops compared to white-ball cricket. The goal is to bring that consistency up. If he plays 10 innings, 7-8 should be impactful. "
The youngster has immense potential and BCCI's current programme is curated to enhance his skills. There will be a particular focus not just on Suryavanshi's batting, but his fitness, fielding and other aspects. Still just an adolescent, Vaibhav Suryavanshi stands at a crucial juncture - his natural flair already making headlines, but his journey towards becoming a complete multi-format player is still in progress.
