However, beyond the eye-catching numbers, it is the remarkable vision of the late Shane Warne that stands out as a defining moment in the franchise's journey.
After retiring from international cricket following Australia's 2006-07 Ashes victory, Shane Warne made a stunning return in 2008 for the inaugural IPL season with Rajasthan Royals. More than just a player, he took on the roles of captain, coach, and mentor, with the franchise giving him rare, full control over cricketing decisions.
In exchange, Warne secured a distinctive deal earning USD 657,000 along with a 0.75% ownership stake for each year he played. He famously described himself as a "one-stop shop," shaping the team entirely in his vision.

Warne immediately justified that trust by guiding an underdog squad to a historic title win in IPL 2008. Over four seasons, his stake grew to 3%. Back in 2019, when the franchise was valued at around USD 400 million, he confidently predicted its growth.
That foresight proved remarkable. With Rajasthan Royals now valued at USD 1.63 billion, his 3% stake is estimated to be worth around INR 450-460 crore. Originally bought for just USD 67 million in 2008, the franchise's rise highlights Warne's exceptional vision, an enduring legacy that continues to benefit his family after his passing in 2022.
Sadly, Warne is no longer here to witness this moment, having passed away in 2022. Yet, his foresight ensures that his family will benefit immensely from the deal he signed 18 years ago.
