Ravindra Jadeja has suddenly come into the centre of the IPL 2026 trade saga as the India all-rounder is being linked with a move away from Chennai Super
Kings as part of Sanju Samson's arrival from Rajasthan Royals.
Sanju Samson's move to CSK is likely to materialise, involving Jadeja going to the other side. Although Rajasthan Royals are yet to strike a deal, Jadeja has already been communicated about the possible trade.
The Royals have reportedly tried to strike a simultaneous deal with Delhi Capitals as well involving Tristan Stubbs, but in recent days, the CSK-RR trade-off has gained pace. Apart from Jadeja, the Royals are also interested in Sam Curran as an additional player.
Jadeja, who has won multiple IPL titles with the Super Kings, joined the franchise way back in 2012. The all-rounder has been a pivotal part of the CSK jigsaw over the last 14 seasons, and was briefly their captain as well. But his career started with the Rajasthan Royals. Then an India U19 player, Jadeja joined the Royals in the inaugural IPL season and won the championship with them.
After two successful years, Jadeja gained name, but his journey with Rajasthan ended abruptly. Jadeja was banned for one year in 2010, leading to his departure from the franchise.
Why was Ravindra Jadeja banned in IPL 2010?
Ravindra Jadeja was banned from the IPL in 2010 for one year due to a breach of player guidelines. The ban came after Jadeja did not sign a contract renewal with Rajasthan Royals and instead attempted to negotiate a lucrative contract with another franchise, Mumbai Indians, without informing his current team. This action was considered a violation of IPL's player trading rules and contractual obligations.
The IPL Governing Council, led by then-commissioner Lalit Modi, took a unanimous decision to suspend Jadeja for the entire 2010 IPL season, warning all players that such breaches and attempts to "play games" or "blackmail" teams or the league would not be tolerated.
"The IPL governing council has arrived at this decision after due deliberations done after taking into account Ravindra Jadeja's representation to the president of the BCCI and a further representation by the Rajasthan Royals. The player guidelines laid out by the governing council of the IPL are sacrosanct and all players will need to strictly adhere to the same," Modi said in a statement.
What happened after That?
Ravindra Jadeja served his one-year suspension and played no part in IPL 2010. He was subsequently released before the 2011 mega auction and Jadeja was picked by Kochi Tuskers Kerala. He played one season with the Tuskers and then signed for Chennai Super Kings in 2012.
