1. India's Medal Tally Reaches 45 at Asian Games
India continued its strong run at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday, adding eight medals to take its overall tally to 45 - four gold, 20 silver and 21 bronze. Athletics once again proved productive, while shooting and boxing also contributed. India remained 12th in the medal standings, with several more medal opportunities still ahead.
2. Murali Sreeshankar Wins Emotional Long Jump Silver
Murali Sreeshankar marked his return to major competition with a memorable silver medal in the men's long jump at the Asian Games. The Kerala athlete produced a best effort of 8.07m, finishing second. After battling injury setbacks, Sreeshankar's podium finish provided an emotional moment for his family and supporters and added another medal to India's athletics haul.
3. Yashvir Singh, Rohit Yadav Deliver Javelin Double
India celebrated a memorable double podium in the men's javelin throw as Yashvir Singh won silver and Rohit Yadav took bronze. 5. Vithya Ramraj Breaks PT Usha's 42-Year-Old Record
Vithya Ramraj produced one of the most significant performances of India's athletics campaign, winning bronze in the women's 400m hurdles while breaking PT Usha's 42-year-old national record. The Indian clocked a new national-best time, surpassing the mark set by the legendary Usha in 1984. Her performance combined a historic national record with an Asian Games podium finish.
6. Esha Singh Wins Silver, Manu Bhaker Misses Final
India's Esha Singh won silver in the women's 25m pistol at the Asian Games after producing a strong qualification performance and reaching the medal round. She had matched the Games record earlier in the competition. Manu Bhaker, however, missed out on the individual final. Esha's silver nevertheless continued India's productive shooting campaign in Nagoya.
7. Lovlina, Priya and Kapil Assure Boxing Medals
India's boxing contingent continued its medal charge with Lovlina Borgohain, Priya Ghanghas and Kapil Pokhariya assuring podium finishes. Lovlina progressed to the women's 75kg semifinals, while Priya advanced in the 60kg category. Kapil also secured a place in the medal rounds. The results strengthened India's boxing campaign, with the fighters now targeting places in the finals.
8. India Reach Asian Games Cricket Semifinals Without Playing
India advanced to the men's Asian Games cricket semifinals after persistent rain forced the quarter-final against Afghanistan to be abandoned without a ball being bowled. With India progressing through the tournament rules, the team avoided a potentially tricky knockout contest. India will now meet the winner of the Nepal-Sri Lanka quarter-final in the semifinal.
