Lionel Messi is excited ahead of the MLS Cup Final as the Argentine chases another trophy in his illustrious career.
Inter Miami face Vancouver Whitecaps
in the 2025 MLS Cup Final after Vancouver eliminated them earlier in the Concacaf Champions Cup. The matchup gains extra spotlight with Thomas MÜller's recent arrival boosting Vancouver's attack against Messi's Inter Miami side. Inter Miami enters on a 10-2-1 run over their last 13 matches, dominating playoffs 13-1 in knockout wins.
Messi described the final as a "very special final," noting Vancouver's consistency and MÜller's impact: "We know it's going to be a very, very tough game, and the addition of MÜller. makes them much better still. "
He welcomed the rematch: "It's good that this final has come about and that we're facing each other again. We've already faced Vancouver and we understand what kind of team they are.
Just ahead of the MLS Cup Playoffs, Messi secured a contract extension with Inter Miami, ensuring he stays with the team through the 2028 season and will play a key role in inaugurating Miami Freedom Park in April next year. However, two club legends-midfielder Sergio Busquets and defender Jordi Alba-will retire following Saturday's championship match, departing before the next season begins.
"Well, it would be very nice for me, for them, for everyone, wouldn't it? May they finish their careers with a title and in the best possible way," Messi said.
"I think it would be very, very, very positive and a very nice memory for them to retire with one more joy in the great careers they both have had, with all the titles they both won. To add one more and retire with a good taste in their mouth and say goodbye to the United States with a title? It would be something very special," he added.
Along with that, the Argentina legend also expects himself to wear the Sky Blue and White for his country in the FIFA World Cup 2026. After their triumphant 2022 campaign, the Argentine was poised to retire, but he will give it another go in USA, Mexico and Canada next year.
