Darwin (Australia) August 12: South Africa's rising sensation and Chennai Super Kings batter lit up the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin, smashing a blistering
41-ball century against Australia in the second T20I on Tuesday (August 12).
The 22-year-old became the youngest South African to score a T20I hundred and registered the second-fastest century in the format for the Proteas.
Brevis, nicknamed "Baby AB" for his stroke-making prowess, tore into the Australian attack with a stunning display of power-hitting. His innings was laced with eight towering sixes and nine boundaries, leaving the Darwin crowd in awe and the bowlers searching for answers.
Only David Miller has scored a quicker T20I hundred for South Africa, with his 35-ball blitz against Bangladesh in Potchefstroom back in 2017. Brevis's knock also placed him among an elite group of just eight South African men to notch up a T20I century, joining the likes of Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, and Miller himself. This was Brevis's maiden international hundred, marking a defining moment in his young career.
Maiden T20I Century Moment For Brevis
Ben Dwarshuis to Brevis, FOUR! And with that the 22-year-old Brevis brings up the second-fastest T20I century for South Africa, reaching the milestone in style as he pulls a short ball to the fine leg boundary. Brevis takes off his helmet, gazes up at the heavens, and soaks in the moment. It has been a breathtaking innings - patient at the start, explosive thereafter. Dropped once, Brevis made Australia regret their lapse, punishing them with a masterclass in power-hitting. His partner, Tristan Stubbs, was quick to embrace him.

De Villiers, who is also an IPL legend, took to his handle on X, formerly known as Twitter, took a dig at IPL franchises for ignoring the young Protea talent at the IPL 2025 auction. Brevis was later picked up by MS Dhoni-led CSK, midway through IPL 2025, as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh at a price of Rs 2.2 crore.
de Villiers posted on X, "There was such a golden opportunity for IPL teams to pick up Dewald Brevis at the auction! Missed out badly. CSK either got very lucky, or maybe the biggest master stroke everπ The boy can play @BrevisDewald. "
Mind boggling that he wasnβt picked up at all! To think that he came in as an injury subπ€·ββοΈπ

The youngster was given an opportunity by the CSK management, as the team was already endeering through a rough patch in the season, in the playing eleven and proved them right with some blistering knocks.
Highest Individual T20I Score for Proteas
Brevis, now, holds the record for the highest individual score for South Africa in T20 Internationals, smashing an unbeaten 125 against Australia in Darwin in 2025. He is followed by Faf du Plessis, who scored 119 against the West Indies in Johannesburg in 2015, and Richard Levi, whose unbeaten 117 came against New Zealand in Hamilton in 2012. Reeza Hendricks also struck 117 against Pakistan in Centurion in 2024, while Morne van Wyk's unbeaten 114 against the West Indies in Durban in 2015 rounds off the top five.
