Charles Leclerc has committed his future to Ferrari once again.
Just days before his home race at the Monaco Grand Prix, Ferrari announced that the Monegasque
driver has signed a new long-term contract extension, ending months of speculation about his future and reaffirming his place at the centre of the team's long-term plans.
While Ferrari did not disclose the exact length of the agreement, the announcement comes despite Leclerc already being under contract through the end of the 2029 season following a previous extension signed in 2024.
Why is Ferrari announcing another contract so soon?
That's the biggest question surrounding the announcement.
Leclerc's previous contract, signed in early 2024, was already considered one of the longest deals on the Formula 1 grid and was reportedly set to keep him at Ferrari until 2029.

Neither Ferrari nor Leclerc has revealed the exact terms of the new agreement. The team's official statement only confirmed that Leclerc would remain with the Scuderia for the "coming seasons. "
That has led to two possibilities:
- Ferrari has extended Leclerc's deal beyond 2029 and into the next decade.
- The existing agreement has been restructured with improved financial terms, performance clauses or guarantees regarding Ferrari's future competitiveness.
Reports earlier this season suggested Leclerc's previous contract may have contained exit clauses linked to Ferrari's performance. While those reports were never officially confirmed, this new agreement appears to remove any immediate uncertainty surrounding his future.
More importantly, it sends a strong message.
At a time when rival teams continue to monitor driver market opportunities, Ferrari has made it clear that Leclerc remains the cornerstone of its long-term project.

The 28-year-old made it clear that Ferrari remains the team he always dreamed of driving for.
"When I joined Ferrari, I was a kid living a dream," Leclerc said.
"When there's something you love and dream about, when that becomes reality, it just can't mean only racing. It means family.
"And maybe, that is exactly what makes this moment so special. For me, it's always been clear. The dream is still alive, and I'm proud to continue chasing it together. "
In Ferrari's official announcement, Leclerc added:
"I couldn't be happier to continue this journey with Scuderia Ferrari.
"It has always been so much more than just a team to me. It's the team I've loved and dreamt of being part of since I was a child, and after all these years, it has become a second family. "

Why hasn't the Charles Leclerc-Ferrari championship happened yet?
Despite his speed, Leclerc's Ferrari career has often been defined by what might have been.
His best opportunity came in 2022 when Ferrari produced a car capable of challenging Red Bull early in the season. However, a combination of reliability issues, strategic errors and Red Bull's rapid development allowed Max Verstappen to take control of the championship.
Leclerc ultimately finished runner-up, which remains his highest championship finish.
