The India captain's 200th appearance is simply the latest addition to a surprisingly long list.
The Format Started With Women
The history of T20 International cricket itself began in the women's game.
While many associate the format's rise with the inaugural men's T20 World Cup in 2007 or the launch of franchise leagues, the first-ever T20I was actually played between England Women and New Zealand Women in August 2004.
The first men's T20I arrived six months later.
More than two decades on, Harmanpreet's record is another reminder of women's cricket's foundational role in shaping the shortest international format.
Women Reached Major Milestones First
Throughout T20I history, women have consistently set benchmarks before their male counterparts.
Charlotte Edwards became the first batter to score 2,000 T20I runs in 2014, narrowly beating Brendon McCullum to the milestone.
Four years later, New Zealand's Suzie Bates became the first player to reach 3,000 T20I runs, establishing herself as one of the format's pioneers.
On the bowling front, West Indies spinner Anisa Mohammed became the first player to claim 100 T20I wickets in 2016. Lasith Malinga would not reach the same landmark until 2019.
The first five-wicket haul in T20I cricket also belongs to a woman. New Zealand's Amy Satterthwaite claimed 6 for 17 against England in 2007.
Since then, the women's game has continued pushing boundaries. Netherlands spinner Frederique Overdijk became the first player to take seven wickets in a T20I innings, while Brazil's Laura Cardoso recently became the first bowler to register a nine-wicket haul.
Records That Still Belong Exclusively To Women
Some T20 records remain unmatched even today.
Uganda became the first team in T20 history to cross the 300-run mark when it posted 314 against Mali in 2019.
Argentina then shattered that benchmark in 2023, smashing 427 for 1 against Chile - still the highest total ever recorded in any T20 match.
The same innings produced a staggering 350-run opening partnership between Lucia Taylor and Albertina Galan, the only triple-century stand in T20 cricket history.
No men's team has come close to either record.
Harmanpreet Kaur finds her Place In History
Harmanpreet has spent much of her career quietly rewriting the record books.
She became the first player to appear in 150 women's T20Is in 2023. Three years later, she now reaches the unprecedented 200-match mark.
Remarkably, no male cricketer has yet played 200 T20Is. India's Rohit Sharma, the men's record-holder, retired from the format after playing 159 matches.
