The ongoing uncertainty surrounding Pakistan's participation in the high-profile T20 World Cup group-stage match against India appears to be approaching
a decisive phase after fresh discussions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The match, widely regarded as one of cricket's most commercially valuable contests, is believed to generate revenues exceeding ₹4,000 crore when broadcast rights, sponsorships, and global viewership are taken into account.
In an effort to resolve the deadlock, the PCB presented a set of demands to the ICC during recent negotiations. However, several of the board's key proposals were reportedly rejected by the global governing body as per a report by NDTV.
One of the primary concerns raised by the PCB was regarding Bangladesh's financial share from the tournament. Pakistan had sought assurances that Bangladesh would not face any monetary loss despite not featuring in the event. The ICC clarified that Bangladesh's revenue allocation would remain unaffected, indicating that the matter had already been addressed.
The PCB also requested an additional ICC tournament for Bangladesh as compensation in the next international cycle. While not confirming a direct replacement event, the ICC has reportedly shown willingness to consider awarding Bangladesh the hosting rights for an upcoming Under-19 World Cup.
More contentious were the PCB's attempts to involve the ICC in facilitating an India-Pakistan bilateral series. The proposal was firmly rejected, with the ICC reiterating that bilateral cricket engagements fall under the jurisdiction of individual cricket boards rather than the global body. Similar responses were given to PCB's suggestions of organising a tri-nation series involving India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, as well as seeking ICC support for a potential Indian tour of Bangladesh in 2026.
With tensions easing but no final agreement yet in place, an official ICC announcement regarding the highly anticipated India-Pakistan fixture is expected in the coming days.
