Roger Federer has been inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island, more than five years after playing the final singles
match of his career.
The Swiss great finished his career with 20 Grand Slam titles, 103 ATP Tour-level titles and 1,251 match wins, but his legacy extends well beyond the headline numbers. Federer holds a collection of Guinness World Records that underline the extraordinary consistency and longevity of his career.

Federer's breakthrough at a Grand Slam came at Wimbledon in 2003, when he defeated Mark Philippoussis to win his maiden major title.

He went on to win the Wimbledon men's singles title eight times, a men's record at the tournament.
His dominance was particularly pronounced during his peak years. Federer reached 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals from the 2005 Wimbledon Championships through the 2007 US Open, establishing one of the most sustained periods of dominance in men's tennis.
237 consecutive weeks as world No. 1
Federer first reached No. 1 in the men's rankings on February 2, 2004.
He remained at the summit until August 17, 2008, spending 237 consecutive weeks as world No. 1 - a Guinness World Records mark for the longest uninterrupted reign at the top of men's tennis.
Overall, Federer spent 310 weeks as the world's No. 1 player.
His dominance also extended to the Grand Slam semi-finals. He reached 23 consecutive major semi-finals from the 2004 Wimbledon Championships through the 2010 Australian Open, while also making 36 consecutive Grand Slam quarter-finals.
The French Open title that completed Federer's collection
For much of Federer's prime, the French Open represented the missing piece of his Grand Slam resume.
Rafael Nadal had defeated him in three consecutive Roland Garros finals before Federer finally broke through in 2009. With Nadal eliminated by Robin Söderling in the fourth round, Federer defeated Söderling in the final to win his first French Open title.
The victory gave Federer his 14th Grand Slam, matching Pete Sampras' then-record total.
A month later, Federer added another major at Wimbledon in one of the most celebrated finals of his career.
Against Andy Roddick, he served 50 aces, a Guinness World Records mark for the most aces in a Grand Slam singles final. After four hours and 17 minutes, Federer prevailed 16-14 in the fifth set.

Federer's final Grand Slam triumph came at the 2018 Australian Open, when the 36-year-old defeated Marin Čilić in the final.
That victory took him to 20 major titles.

Federer also won the ATP Finals six times and captured 28 ATP Masters 1000 titles.
1,526 singles matches played
Federer's longevity was another defining feature of his career.
He played his first ATP Tour match in Gstaad in 1998 as a 17-year-old and competed professionally for 24 years before retiring in 2022.
By the end of his career, Federer had played 1,526 singles matches on the ATP Tour, a Guinness World Records mark for the most singles matches played on the tour.
He finished with 1,251 tour-level match wins, alongside 103 titles.
Roger Federer and the rivalries that defined an era
Federer's career cannot be separated from his rivalries with Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
He finished with losing head-to-head records against both: 16-24 against Nadal and 23-27 against Djokovic.
Yet those rivalries produced some of the defining matches in tennis history.
The 2008 Wimbledon final against Nadal remains one of the sport's most famous encounters, while Djokovic famously saved match point against Federer in their 2011 US Open semi-final with a remarkable forehand return.
Their rivalry reached another extraordinary chapter in the 2019 Wimbledon final, when Djokovic defeated Federer in a five-set epic despite Federer winning 14 more total points.
More than numbers
Federer's Hall of Fame case, however, rests on more than records.
His style, built around a devastating forehand, one-handed backhand, precise serving, movement and exceptional touch, helped shape the aesthetic of modern tennis. His ability to make technically difficult shots appear routine became central to his public image.
Federer himself has rejected the idea that his tennis was genuinely effortless.
"Effortless is a myth," he said during his 2024 Dartmouth College commencement address, explaining that making his game look easy required enormous work.
That distinction is central to understanding Federer's legacy. The apparent simplicity of his tennis was the product of years of refinement.
