Tragedy has struck in Indian cricket team as Rinku Singh is currently grieving the profound loss of his father, Khanchandra Singh, who passed away on February
27, 2026, after a battle with stage-4 liver cancer.
Khanchand Singh succumbed to the illness at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, where he had been receiving intensive care in his final days. His condition had deteriorated sharply, requiring mechanical ventilator support and continuous renal replacement therapy as medical teams fought to stabilize him.
Despite these efforts, his health declined rapidly due to the advanced stage of the cancer, which he had been fighting for over a year.
The news comes at a challenging time for Rinku, who is part of India's squad in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Just days earlier, the left-handed batter had rushed home from the team's camp in Chennai after learning of his father's worsening state, ahead of a crucial Super 8 match against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Rinku prioritized family during this emergency, leaving training and travelling immediately to be by his loved ones' side in Greater Noida.
Despite that, the player came back to rejoin the India camp before the match in Chennai. The Indian team management made a tweak which left Rinku out of the playing 11, and after his father's demise on Friday, the player is likely to leave the Indian team again.
India's next Super Eight match is against West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday, and Rinku may join the Indian team at the City of Joy later.
