Cabo Verde became the smallest nation by population (approximately 525,000-600,000) ever to reach the knockout stage of a World Cup. They are also the first debutant nation since Senegal in 2002 to remain unbeaten through the entire group stage.
This remarkable achievement follows their qualification for the finals on October 13, 2025, secured with a 3-0 victory over Eswatini that topped their CAF qualifying group. As one of the smallest countries by land area to compete at the global stage, the Blue Sharks have defied all expectations.
