CSK has confirmed that MS Dhoni is rehabbing a calf strain and will sit out the first two weeks of IPL 2026. The franchise shared this update via social
media, noting the veteran won't feature in the initial matches.
The five-time IPL champions have been dealt with a big blow as the veteran is set to miss a considerable period of action this year.
"MS Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain. As a result, he is likely to miss the first two weeks of TATA IPL 2026. Get well soon, Thala!" read the statement.
The 44-year-old legend, a five-time IPL-winning captain with CSK, has faced ongoing fitness hurdles lately-like knee surgery post-2023, fueled by recent videos of him limping in practice.
Dhoni's absence, particularly behind the stumps and in the lower order, will be a significant early test for stand-in skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and the squad. His calm presence and finishing prowess have often proven decisive in high-pressure situations.
When will MS Dhoni Return?
CSK said in the statement that Dhoni may miss two weeks of IPL action, but it is likely to extend. As per latest reports, the former India captain will be out of action for at least three weeks. He is also set to miss out six matches in the IPL 2026 season.
