The 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season has delivered one of the most remarkable stories in Indian domestic cricket history as Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) have clinched
their maiden title.
In a fairytale run, the team, led by Paras Dogra, reached the final for the first time ever after 67 years in the competition. They faced a star-studded Karnataka side in the final at the KSCA Hubli Cricket Ground.J&K opted to bat first and posted a commanding total of 584, with Shubham Pundir top-scoring (121).
Karnataka, despite a solid 160 from Mayank Agarwal, were bowled out for 293, conceding a massive 291-run first-innings lead. Key to this dominance was pacer Auqib Nabi, who claimed his seventh five-wicket haul of the season (5/54) and finished as the highest wicket-taker overall (60 wickets). In their second innings, J&K built further pressure, reaching strong positions with standout performances from Qamran Iqbal (who slammed a century on Day 5) and Sahil Lotra with two excellent knocks.
By the final day, J&K's lead exceeded 500 runs, making victory inevitable - even in the event of a draw, the first-innings lead rule would crown them champions. Qamran Iqbal and Sahil Lotra both scored unbeaten centuries on the day. This historic triumph has marked J&K as the latest addition to the list of Ranji Trophy winners, inspiring celebrations across the region.
