Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured a fantastic win over Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 encounter on Friday (April 24).
A five-wicket victory means they
have now propelled to 2nd spot in the points table with 10 points in seven matches. The Chinnaswamy Stadium roared in full volume as they saw the home team playing their final home match at the venue.
Why won't RCB play in Bengaluru Anymore?
The franchise announced that five of their seven home matches will be played at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, their traditional home ground. The remaining two home games will take place at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Why are RCB moving away two matches from Chinnaswamy Stadium?
This decision comes after months of discussions and uncertainty surrounding the Chinnaswamy Stadium's availability. Following a tragic stampede incident during RCB's victory celebrations last year, which claimed 11 lives, the venue had not hosted competitive cricket for some time. The Karnataka government had earlier granted approval for IPL and international matches to resume at Chinnaswamy, but the final call rested with the franchise.
RCB had talks with the Chhattisgarh cricket association and the government to move the entire home venue to Raipur, but a final clearance on Chinnaswamy meant RCB had to play the majority of their home matches in Bengaluru. But as initial commitment was made for Raipur, the RCB management has kept their words by playing a couple there.
RCB CEO Rajesh Menon confirmed the arrangement, emphasizing the team's commitment to both fan safety and delivering an exciting season for supporters.
"We're thrilled to return to Chinnaswamy for the majority of our home games while honoring our existing obligations in Raipur," Menon said in a statement. "This balanced approach ensures continuity for our passionate Bengaluru fans and expands our reach. "
