Bayern Munich moved into the Champions League last 16 after a 2-0 home win over Union Saint-Gilloise, secured by two Harry Kane goals. Bayern played the final
half-hour with 10 players after Kim Min-jae received a red card, yet still controlled the closing stages.
Kane converted twice in three second-half minutes, then struck the crossbar with a later penalty. The runaway Bundesliga leaders created the better chances over the 90 minutes, while Union Saint-Gilloise threatened mainly on the counter-attack and from set pieces but failed to find a way past Manuel Neuer.
The victory marked Bayern’s 60th home win to nil in the Champions League, the highest such total by any club in the competition. Bayern are also one of only two teams already confirmed in the last 16, underlining the control shown in their group campaign so far.
Kane’s scoring run continued with another decisive display. Kane has now been directly involved in 32 goals in 32 Champions League games for Bayern, with 26 goals and six assists. That tally is the best by any player in the competition since the start of the 2023-24 season.
Kane’s 26 Champions League goals in that period are also the joint-highest total, level with Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe. Supporting Kane, Michael Olise again provided creativity, after producing four goal contributions from the bench in Bayern’s 5-1 win over RB Leipzig the previous weekend.
Olise’s influence this season is clear across all competitions. Olise has supplied 17 assists for Bayern in 2025-26, more than any team-mate. That figure is at least six higher than any player at clubs in Europe’s top five leagues, with Lamine Yamal and Arda Guler next on 11.
Union Saint-Gilloise almost shocked Bayern early on, when Kevin Mac Allister dragged a 20th-minute effort narrowly wide after a free-kick routine. The visitors then forced Neuer into a sharp save from Promise David’s powerful close-range header, which was the clearest chance of a tight first half.
Bayern had already threatened inside two minutes, as Kjell Scherpen blocked Kane from close range. After the interval, Bayern finally broke through on 52 minutes, when Kane met Olise’s swinging corner from the right and flicked the ball inside Scherpen’s near post with a clever finish.
Just three minutes later, Scherpen fouled Kane inside the penalty area, and Kane struck the spot-kick firmly from 12 yards for Bayern’s second goal. Bayern then suffered a setback when Kim Min-jae collected a second yellow card for an off-the-ball pull on Raul Florucz, leaving Bayern with 10 players.
Despite being short-handed, Bayern continued to attack and created further chances. In the 80th minute, Kamiel Van de Perre handled an Olise cross, giving Kane another penalty. Kane’s right-footed attempt beat Scherpen but crashed against the crossbar. Bayern still finished with the stronger xG, 3.14 from 14 shots, compared with Saint-Gilloise’s 0.88 from five attempts.

The result capped another efficient European display from Bayern, who combined strong defensive numbers with clinical attacking spells. Kane and Olise again provided the key contributions, while Union Saint-Gilloise’s limited shot count and xG underlined how rarely Bayern allowed clear openings despite playing with 10 players late on.
