Cameron Green made history at the IPL 2026 auction by becoming the most expensive overseas player ever, acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a staggering
Rs 25.20 crore.
Bidding ignited with Mumbai Indians but escalated when Rajasthan Royals pushed it past Rs 13 crore before withdrawing. Chennai Super Kings then clashed with KKR, who had the largest purse of Rs 64 crore, ultimately clinching Green after a fierce war.
The deal made Green the most expensive overseas player in the history of the game. Despite the record bid, Green's actual salary caps at Rs 18 crore under IPL's "maximum-fee" rule for mini auctions. The excess goes toward player welfare via BCCI, as overseas fees are limited to the top retention slab.
The Knight Riders, who secured the Australian after an aggressive bidding war, will be hoping for the goods in IPL 2026. But ahead of the IPL, the KKR camp and fans will be concerned with Green's form, as the player has been going through a torrid period.
How has Cameron Green performed after IPL 2026 Deal?
Cameron Green is part of the Australian team in the Ashes and so far, he has largely disappointed. Since the IPL deal, Green has scored only 43 runs across four innings, with an average of 11.25. With the ball, he has been largely ineffective with limited opportunities, picking up 2 wickets. But batting, the main forte of Green, seems to be missing at the moment and KKR would need him to fire ahead of the IPL.
Australia have large hopes on Green as well, especially with the T20 World Cup on the horizon. The 26-year-old has so far scored 112 runs in four Ashes Tests, and has 3 wickets to his name. With the final Test approaching, Green would be keen to restore some of his form in the longest format of the game.
Should KKR be Worried for Cameron Green?
For Kolkata Knight Riders, the dip in Ashes is definitely a blip but shouldn't be a huge concern. IPL is still three and a half months away and the format is T20, which means Green can restore his form and get equipped for the IPL 2026 in due course. The upcoming T20 World Cup on Indian soil would not just be a huge test for the player, but a tough rehearsal ahead of the IPL exploits.
