Lucknow Super Giants are reportedly exploring a potential move for Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of IPL 2027, with speculation suggesting
that a leadership role could form part of the franchise's plans. However, there has been no official confirmation of a trade, and Jaiswal's future with Rajasthan remains uncertain.
The prospect of a move would represent a significant shift for both franchises. Jaiswal has established himself as one of the IPL's most aggressive Indian opening batters, while Lucknow could benefit from securing a long-term domestic top-order option. Any deal, however, would depend on negotiations between the franchises, the player's consent and the financial structure of the transaction.
Why Lucknow Super Giants Want Yashasvi Jaiswal
Jaiswal's attacking approach at the top of the order makes him an attractive potential addition for Lucknow. According to the figures provided, he scored 427 runs in IPL 2026 at an average of 30.50 and a strike rate of 152.50. He had also delivered a productive 2025 campaign, scoring 559 runs in 14 matches at an average of 43.
His overall IPL record in the supplied data stands at 2,593 runs in 83 matches, with two centuries and 18 fifties. His strike rate of 152.80 highlights his ability to score quickly, particularly during the powerplay.
A move to Lucknow could give the franchise an established Indian opener around whom it could build its top order. The speculation has also raised the possibility of a leadership role, although there is no confirmed indication that captaincy has been formally discussed or offered.
Could Jaiswal Leave Rajasthan Royals?
Rajasthan have invested in Jaiswal as a key part of their batting plans, making a potential departure a significant decision for the franchise.
The supplied reports suggest that Rajasthan have discussed their future plans with Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel, while speculation has also focused on the emergence of young opening options, including Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
Sooryavanshi's reported performances in IPL 2026 have added to the discussion about Rajasthan's long-term top-order combination. However, the emergence of other young batters does not, by itself, indicate that the franchise is willing to trade Jaiswal.
There has been no official announcement that Rajasthan have agreed to release or trade the opener. For now, the reports remain speculation rather than confirmation of an impending transfer.
How Could an IPL Trade for Jaiswal Work?
A potential deal would require agreement between Rajasthan and Lucknow, along with the necessary player consent and compliance with the IPL's applicable trading and registration rules.
The supplied material outlines two broad possibilities: a cash-based trade or a player exchange. A player swap could involve Lucknow offering an established cricketer in return, potentially alongside a financial adjustment, depending on the terms agreed by the franchises.
However, the exact mechanics would depend on the applicable IPL rules and the players' contractual circumstances. The reported ₹18 crore figure should also be treated as a stated salary or retention value in the supplied material, rather than confirmation of a transfer fee or the final cost of any proposed deal.
No agreement between the two franchises has been announced.
Which LSG Players Could Be Involved in a Trade?
Lucknow's reported salary structure suggests that any major acquisition would require careful financial planning. The supplied figures list Rishabh Pant at ₹27 crore and Nicholas Pooran at ₹21 crore, with Mayank Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Avesh Khan among the franchise's other high-value players.
Potential trade scenarios discussed in the supplied material include moving a fast bowler such as Avesh or Mayank, or considering an overseas player such as Josh Inglis. These are hypothetical options, not confirmed negotiations or reported offers.
Moving a high-value player could help balance a deal, but it would also leave Lucknow needing to account for the effect on their squad. Any assessment would depend on the franchise's actual retained squad, available purse and the trading rules in force for IPL 2027.
The suggestion that Lucknow would necessarily have to sacrifice one of their two highest earners is not established by the available information. The franchise's final budget and the structure of any potential deal would determine what is financially feasible.
Will Yashasvi Jaiswal Become LSG Captain in IPL 2027?
The possibility of Jaiswal taking on a leadership role is one of the more intriguing aspects of the speculation. At 24, the opener could offer a long-term Indian option if Lucknow decide to make changes to their leadership structure.
However, Rishabh Pant is currently listed as Lucknow's captain in the supplied material. There has been no official confirmation that the franchise intends to replace him or that Jaiswal has been approached about taking over.
For now, the captaincy angle remains part of the rumour rather than an established element of a potential deal.
IPL 2027: What Happens Next?
A Jaiswal trade would require several moving parts to fall into place: Rajasthan's willingness to negotiate, the player's agreement, a suitable offer from Lucknow and compliance with the IPL's rules.
Until either franchise confirms discussions or announces an agreement, Jaiswal's reported move to Lucknow should be treated cautiously.
The speculation highlights the value of an established Indian opener in the IPL, but it remains too early to conclude that Jaiswal will leave Rajasthan Royals or become Lucknow Super Giants' next captain.
