The T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, presents a golden opportunity for the Men in Blue. As the defending
champions after their thrilling victory over South Africa in 2024, India enters the tournament with immense confidence and significant home advantage.
With five iconic venues in India-Narendra Modi Stadium (Ahmedabad), Eden Gardens (Kolkata), Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai), and Arun Jaitley Stadium (Delhi) - plus three in Sri Lanka, India will play most of their matches on familiar soil, including potentially the final in Ahmedabad.

1. Becoming the First Team to Win Three T20 World Cups
India currently shares the record for most T20 World Cup titles with England and West Indies, each having won twice (India in 2007 and 2024). No team has ever claimed three titles in the tournament's history spanning nine editions.
A victory in 2026 would make India the outright most successful nation in men's T20 World Cup history, surpassing the current joint record holders.
2. Becoming the First Team to Successfully Defend a T20 World Cup Title
In the unpredictable world of T20 cricket, no champion has ever retained the crown in the next edition. Defending champions have often struggled, with the best performances being semi-final appearances. India, as the 2024 winners, has the chance to break this jinx and become the first team ever to defend the T20 World Cup successfully.
3. Becoming the First Team to Win the T20 World Cup on Home Soil
Despite nine editions hosted across various countries, no team has won the title as the primary or co-host. The closest have been runners-up finishes by host nations, such as Sri Lanka in 2012.
While the 2026 tournament is co-hosted with Sri Lanka, the majority of matches, including the final, will be in India if Pakistan don't qualify for it.
