According to a Hindustan Times report, MI initially sought highly-rated youngster Ayush Mhatre along with cash as part of a proposed trade. However, Chennai Super Kings are believed to have resisted parting ways with the teenage opener and instead explored an alternative package comprising Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis and ₹10 crore. Neither franchise has commented publicly on the reports, and no negotiations have been officially confirmed.
Hardik's IPL 2026 season was below his standards
While Hardik remains among the IPL's most valuable cricketers because of his unique skill set, his individual returns in IPL 2026 were relatively modest.
The Mumbai Indians skipper scored 206 runs at an average of 22.89 and a strike rate of 138.26, failing to register a half-century throughout the campaign. His impact with the ball was equally limited as he claimed just four wickets, while conceding over 11 runs per over.
Despite those numbers, franchises continue to value Hardik because genuine Indian pace-bowling all-rounders who can also captain remain extremely rare commodities.
Shivam Dube enjoyed a better season with the bat

While Dube's batting numbers exceeded Hardik's during IPL 2026, evaluating the proposed trade purely on recent performances would overlook Hardik's broader value.
The India international offers batting depth, seam bowling and leadership within a single player-qualities that remain exceptionally difficult to replace in the IPL.
Likewise, comparing Hardik's all-round contributions directly with the combined returns of Dube and Brevis can be misleading, given the vastly different roles each player performs within their respective franchises.
