Bangladesh Cricket Board admits ICC rejection, claims ultimatum as 'False, Unfounded Reports'

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given its verdict to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), rejecting their plea for a venue shift in the T20 World Cup 2026.

As per the latest update, ICC has found

no such security concerns, which were raised by the BCB, and the Tigers have been given the verdict to play their matches in India. The apex body has also guaranteed to work with the BCB to ensure all safery measures.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board released a statement on Wednesday (January 7), acknowledging ICC's latest verdict.

"In its communication, the ICC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the full and uninterrupted participation of the Bangladesh team in the tournament. The ICC has conveyed its willingness to work closely with the BCB to address the concerns raised and has assured that the Board's inputs will be welcomed and duly considered as part of the detailed security planning for the event," a statement from BCB read.

The BCB also confirmed that there was no such ultimatum from ICC's side, contrary to the reports released earlier on the day. Reports claimed the apex body of cricket told BCB to either play in India or forfeit their points, which the BCB has outrightly rejected, claiming it to be false.

"The BCB has also taken note of certain reports published in a section of the media suggesting that the Board has been issued an ultimatum in this regard. The BCB categorically states that such claims are completely false, unfounded and do not reflect the nature or content of the communication received from the ICC," the statement added.

As per the latest, the two bodies will continue their dialogue for a smooth T20 World Cup participation as the Bangladesh board considers players' safety as their main focus. The call to play away from Indian soil came after BCCI instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to release Mustafizur Rahman, which has been a pressing matter after the recent minority murders in Bangladesh.

The geopolitical tension between the two nations took a toll on their cricketing relationship, and the impasse has continued since. It is to be seen where Bangladesh ends up playing in the T20 World Cup, which may also determine the dynamics of the relationship in future between these two neighbouring countries.
