Wolves have dismissed head coach Rob Edwards after seven months, following relegation from the Premier League. The team finished bottom of the table, and Edwards managed only three wins in 27 league games, with Wolves scoring 20 goals.
Edwards had been appointed in November, replacing Vitor Pereira with the clear task of keeping Wolves in the Premier League. That target was missed as the club dropped into the Championship, extending a difficult spell in the team’s recent history.
The 43-year-old arrives at this point after another relegation, having gone down with Luton Town in the 2024-25 season. During the recent Wolves spell, the league record stood at three wins, 15 defeats and nine draws from 27 matches.
Before returning to Wolves, Edwards
appeared on course to guide Middlesbrough to promotion at the start of the 2025-26 campaign. That progress ended when Edwards chose to leave Middlesbrough and accept the Wolves role, seeking a swift Premier League return.
Wolves have already started reshaping the squad following Edwards’ departure. The club have secured Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez on free transfers, while reports suggest that former Braga coach Cesar Peixoto is close to being confirmed as the new head coach.
Wolves executive chairman Nathan Shi said: "I would like to personally thank Rob and his staff for everything they have given to Wolves during what has been a very difficult period in the clubs recent history. "

Shi explained that the choice to move on from Edwards related to sporting direction rather than behaviour. Rob accepted the challenge of returning to Wolves at a time when the situation was extremely challenging, and throughout his time here he has conducted himself with professionalism, integrity and commitment. Our decision was not about character, professionalism or dedication. It was about determining what we believe gives Wolves the strongest opportunity to move forward from a sporting perspective.
Edwards now leaves Molineux with his immediate future unclear, while Wolves search for stability on and off the pitch. The next appointment, with Peixoto strongly linked, will shape how the club responds to consecutive setbacks and prepares for life outside the Premier League.
