Chennai, Nov 10: In what could be one of the most high-profile trades in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, the swap deal between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) is reportedly "on
track but yet to be completed.
According to Cricbuzz, both franchises have initiated the process ahead of the IPL 2026 Retention deadline, but formal confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pending.
Trade Details and Player Valuation
| Player | Franchise | Auction Price |
|---|---|---|
| Chennai Super Kings | Rs 18 crore | |
| Chennai Super Kings | Rs 2.40 crore | |
| Rajasthan Royals | Rs 18 crore |
As per the report, CSK - the five-time champions - are trading all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in exchange for Sanju Samson. While Jadeja and Samson were both retained for ₹18 crore by their respective franchises, Curran, bought for ₹2.4 crore in the previous mega auction, was added to the trade mix after Rajasthan's initial demand for Dewald Brevis was turned down by Chennai.
Trade Formalisation and BCCI's Role
Under the IPL Player Regulations, a trade requires at least 48 hours to be formalised. Both franchises have submitted the Expression of Interest (EOI) to the BCCI. However, as of Monday evening (October 10), no official confirmation has been made to the IPL authorities.
"Consent has been obtained from all three players and the Expression of Interest process has been initiated. All three have signed on the dotted line, but the process will take some time to culminate, a franchise official told Cricbuzz.
Since Sam Curran is an overseas player, an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will be required to complete the trade.
Suresh Raina's Take: "Jadeja Must Stay with CSK
The news of Jadeja's possible departure has divided the IPL fraternity. Suresh Raina, one of CSK's most iconic players, voiced his opinion strongly against the move. "Ravindra Jadeja should be retained again. He is a gun player for CSK. He has done really, really well for the team over the years, so 'Sir Ravindra Jadeja' has to be there," Raina, who is fondly called 'Chinna Thala' by CSK fans, told broadcasters Jio Hotstar.
Key IPL Trade Regulations Explained
- Players bought at an auction cannot be traded in the season immediately following that auction.
- For overseas players, a NOC from the respective cricket board is mandatory.
- Only the League Fee can be negotiated; no additional payments can be made outside the contract.
- The player must be match fit before the trade is finalised.
- A franchise can trade any number of players as long as it remains within the salary cap.
- The BCCI has the authority to approve or reject a trade and will release official trade information to the media.
What's Next?
Once the BCCI receives the signed consent forms and NOC (for Curran), the trade discussions can move to the final stage. Given the 48-hour rule, an official announcement may be expected by mid-week, provided no objections are raised by the governing body or the franchises involved.
The proposed Jadeja-Curran-Samson swap, if completed, could significantly reshape the strategies of both CSK and RR ahead of IPL 2026 - giving CSK a new leadership prospect in Samson and RR two dynamic all-rounders with immense match-winning ability.
