India batter Tilak Varma has expressed strong confidence and enthusiasm ahead of the highly anticipated ICC Men's T20 World Cup clash against Pakistan in Colombo on February 15.
The young left-hander revealed that the Indian camp has been fully prepared for the marquee encounter and is eagerly looking forward to the contest between the arch-rivals.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of India's fixture against Namibia, Tilak highlighted the excitement within the squad after confirmation that Pakistan would take part in the match. The participation of Pakistan had earlier been uncertain following reports that the team might withdraw due to government directives.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) later informed the International
Cricket Council (ICC) that the team would honour its scheduled matches, ensuring that one of cricket's most intense rivalries remains part of the tournament.
"We were excited to play and we were already prepared for the clash against Pakistan. When we got the news, we got excited for the match," Tilak Varma said at the pre-match press conference ahead of India's clash against Namibia on Thursday.
The ICC reportedly played a key role in resolving the situation by facilitating discussions among the concerned stakeholders. With the uncertainty now cleared, attention has shifted entirely to preparations on the field as fans await another high-profile India-Pakistan showdown.
Tilak's presence in the squad has itself been a significant boost for India, considering the batter had faced doubts over his availability for the World Cup after struggling with an injury. The 23-year-old, however, has made an impressive comeback and appears confident about contributing to the team's campaign.
"I am really happy to be back in World Cup side. Good routines in last few weeks have helped me be here. Aim is here to win the World Cup. Always ready to contribute for the team. It didn't feel like I was returning after a forced break when played in practice game," Tilak Varma told the media on Wednesday.
India will look to fine-tune their combinations in the match against Namibia before shifting focus to the blockbuster clash against Pakistan. With Tilak regaining form and confidence at a crucial stage, India will hope his return adds depth and balance to their batting lineup as they pursue another global title.
