The former Zimbabwe captain and successful England coach had previously elevated Multan Sultans in the PSL and St Lucia Zouks in the CPL. At RCB, he replaced a fragmented setup with clear roles, tactical discipline, and high-performance standards.
In 2024, despite an inconsistent start, RCB rallied to finish fourth and reach the Eliminator. Flower's philosophy emphasized collective unity over individual stardom. He focused on building resilience, smart recruitment, and data-driven strategies. By 2025, under captain Rajat Patidar, RCB finished second in the league stage, won all their away games - a first in IPL history - and triumphed in the final against Punjab Kings.
Dinesh Karthik: The Perfect Complement
Complementing Flower was Dinesh Karthik, who retired from playing after a stellar 2024 season with RCB and stepped into a full-time coaching role. As batting coach and mentor, "DK" brought invaluable Indian insight, on-field experience, and energetic mentorship. He worked one-on-one with batters, tailoring approaches to their strengths while fostering mental toughness.
Karthik's impact was visible in RCB's aggressive yet composed batting throughout the season. Players credited him for their evolution, especially in high-pressure chases and middle-overs clarity. His sessions helped batters like Krunal Pandya deliver match-winning performances even under physical strain.

The Flower-Karthik partnership created a perfectly balanced unit that excelled in powerplays, middle overs, and death phases. Supported by Director of Cricket Mo Bobat and other coaching staff, they addressed RCB's historical flaws - choking under pressure and inconsistent depth - through better match-ups, intense fielding standards, and squad harmony.
Flower brought rigorous international planning and structure, while Karthik added contextual understanding and player relatability. This blend proved far more effective than short-term fixes or relying solely on star power. Virat Kohli, their talisman, has also played a key part in it.
