Former India batter Robin Uthappa is pushing for Virat Kohli to reverse his Test retirement decision, citing the star's sharp focus spotted in recent nets sessions ahead of India's limited-overs clashes.
The ex-RCB teammate posted a snapshot of Kohli batting, highlighting his undimmed drive. This call revives buzz around Kohli's abrupt 2025 exit from red-ball cricket, right before the England tour.
Uthappa captioned his social media post: "The eyes tell u a story.Surely it's time to rescind his test retirement. Would love to see him back in Test cricket. " He shared the image from India's practice ahead of the New Zealand ODI series, insisting the intensity screams readiness for a comeback
In a prior YouTube video, Uthappa questioned both Kohli's and Rohit Sharma's Test farewells, stating: "I don't know if it was a forced surrender, but it definitely didn't seem like a natural exit. What the truth is, they themselves will have to share in their own time. But I don't think it was natural. " Kohli amassed 9,230 Test runs at 46.85, with 30 tons, before stepping away in May 2025 post a tough Border-Gavaskar series.
Kohli's White-Ball Surge
Post-retirement from Tests and T20Is, Kohli topped India's ODI charts in 2025 with 651 runs across 13 innings at 65.10 average. He holds second spot in ODI rankings behind Sharma and fired with back-to-back fifties for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy lately. The India star is currently in Vadodara for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand and is expected to make a strong impact in the 50-over format as well.
