After a commanding victory in the series opener in Dharamshala, Team India is set to face Afghanistan in the 2nd ODI on Wednesday (June 17).
The action now shifts to the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, where Shubman Gill's men will be looking to seal the three-match series.
With a 1-0 lead and the 2027 ODI World Cup preparations officially underway, the team management is keen on testing their bench strength.
Rohit Sharma set to miss out?
The biggest talking point ahead of the Lucknow clash revolves around veteran batter Rohit Sharma. During the first ODI, Rohit sustained a blow to his wrist. Although he received on-field treatment and continued to bat, he looked visibly uncomfortable before eventually getting run out after a mix-up with captain Shubman Gill.
If Rohit sits
out, the dynamic Yashasvi Jaiswal is perfectly positioned to step in. His inclusion would mean a fresh opening combination of Gill and Jaiswal taking the field.
The first ODI was a spectacular showcase for India's debutants. Left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey and tearaway pacer Gurnoor Brar made immediate impacts, claiming three wickets each to completely derail the Afghan batting lineup. Gurnoor was particularly impressive, finishing with figures of 3/27, while Dubey took 3/47.
With the pitch traditionally offering assistance to bowlers, India might hand out another debut cap. Prince Yadav, the breakout star for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026. Prince's familiarity with the pitch and his impressive IPL tally of 16 wickets in 14 matches make him a highly exciting prospect.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav, who has been struggling to find his rhythm recently, is expected to sit out once again while Harsh Dubey continues his run in the side.
