Brooks Koepka has become the first player to leave LIV Golf in order to focus on family needs and reduce travel. The five-time major winner will end his involvement after the 2025 season, having agreed
terms with the Saudi-backed league.
LIV Golf chief executive Scott O'Neil confirmed the decision in a statement that underlined Koepka's influence on the breakaway circuit. "We have amicably and mutually agreed that Brooks Koepka will no longer compete in the LIV Golf League, following the 2025 season," LIV Golf chief executive Scott O'Neil said. "Brooks is prioritising the needs of his family and staying closer to home. We appreciate the significant impact he has had on the game and wish him continued success, both on and off the course. "
Attention now turns to where Brooks Koepka plays after leaving LIV Golf, with a possible return to the PGA Tour already discussed for months. Under current PGA Tour rules, any player switching from LIV must serve a year-long absence from their last appearance, and the LIV season finishes in August.
Brooks Koepka also has routes back into other major circuits once the LIV Golf agreement ends. Koepka will be able to seek membership on the DP World Tour and will continue to hold exemptions that allow entry into all four major championships, based on previous victories at the highest level.
When LIV Golf launched in 2022, Brooks Koepka was one of its headline signings and agreed a multi-year deal that was due to run until the end of 2026. Koepka has instead chosen to conclude that contract early, with one year still remaining on the agreement.
Across four LIV Golf seasons, Brooks Koepka claimed five individual titles and led Smash GC as team captain. That role is already changing hands, with Talor Gooch taking over leadership of Smash GC following confirmation of Koepka's decision to depart the league after the 2025 campaign.

Brooks Koepka LIV Golf move in context of career
Before joining LIV Golf, Brooks Koepka built a prominent career on the PGA Tour after turning professional in 2012. Koepka won nine PGA Tour titles and secured five major championships, including three PGA Championships and two US Open crowns in 2017 and 2018.
Speculation around Brooks Koepka and LIV Golf has been ongoing through recent months, with many in the golf world expecting some form of change. With the decision now official, Koepka's next competitive steps will depend on existing tour policies and the timelines set by LIV Golf's season calendar.
