Justin Rose Aims For Record-Setting Finish At Farmers Insurance Open, Torrey Pines

Justin Rose is closing in on history at the Farmers Insurance Open, taking a dominant advantage into the final round at Torrey Pines. Rose stands at 21 under after three rounds and holds a six-shot cushion, yet insists there is still work to finish in San Diego.

The English player carded a four-under 68 on Saturday, extending control of the leaderboard. Joel Dahmen sits second on 15 under, with Ryo Hisatsune and Si-Woo Kim sharing third at 13 under. Rose will set a new tournament scoring record if Rose reaches at least 23 under on Sunday.

The current best total at the Farmers Insurance Open is 22 under, achieved by Tiger Woods in 1999 and George Burns in 1987. Rose can also chase the biggest winning margin at Torrey Pines. Woods claimed that record

too, winning by eight strokes in 2008, a mark Rose could surpass with another low round.

Rose already owns good memories at this venue, having lifted the Farmers Insurance Open title in 2019. The 45-year-old again looks comfortable on the South Course layout and has taken advantage of favourable conditions to move clear, yet has stressed the need to stay disciplined.

However, the 45-year-old, who won the event in 2019,will not get carried away ahead of the final round, telling Sky Sports: "I've enjoyed playing the golf course this week. I want to continue to enjoy the week as a whole. It's another great round in good weather on an awesome golf course. There's never going to be any complacency. I think there's always enough respect for the game of golf in the back of your mind that you've got to do everything right tomorrow. You're going to come out, have to be focused, have to play well. "

Rose heads into Sunday with records within reach and a sizeable lead, yet also with clear respect for Torrey Pines and the pressure of closing out. The final round will decide whether strong form across three days becomes a second Farmers Insurance Open victory and a place in tournament history.
